- 1). Take the end of one of the lengths of hemp and make a loop with the end behind the length of the hemp.
- 2). Pull the end of the rope over the length and toward the center to make a Q shape.
- 3). Pin the Q-shaped loop on your knotting board at the cross point.
- 4). Pull the length of the rope under the loop and pull the whole thing through the center in an upward direction. Pull tightly.
- 5). Pull the length through the center again in the same upward fashion. This will lead to a figure 8 loop of rope. Pull tightly.
- 6). Continue pulling the length through in this way. The hemp will start to look increasingly like a fish bone. Continue this until you are ready to tie off the end.
- 7). Tie off the ends of your rope with a sharp knot.
