How to Make Pumpkin Topiaries
- 1). Place a large concrete urn on your porch or in your home where you want the topiary. Placement is important because the topiary will be heavy and awkward to move after it's finished. Take a few moments to visualize where you want the topiary.
- 2). Fill the urn with sand. Not only will this support the rebar in your topiary but it will also support the largest pumpkin and keep your urn from cracking as the temperature changes.
- 3). Push a length of rebar down into the sand, working it as far down into the urn as you can. Twist when you meet resistance; the rebar should move downward like a screw.
- 4). Heft the largest pumpkin up to the top of the rebar. Center it over the bar and let gravity do the work as it drops. Guide the pumpkin with your hands so it falls slowly and straight down.
- 5). Add the second pumpkin the same way. The first two or three pumpkins should sit centered on top of each other.
- 6). Push the last three or four pumpkins down onto the rebar. You may angle these pumpkins for visual interest or to get extra height to cover the rebar.
