How to Make Tie Dye Shirt Cross Patterns
- 1). Spread your white T-shirt out on a flat surface. Sketch a cross on the front of the shirt. The cross may either take up the entire front of the shirt or simply decorate the chest or one shoulder of the shirt.
- 2). Stitch loosely over your chalk lines with a needle and thread. Stitch through the back and front of the shirt, securing them to each other. This ensures that the cross is on the front and back of the shirt.
- 3). Gently tug on the ends of the thread in your shirt. This makes the cross and shirt both scrunch up into tie-dye ready formation.
- 4). Warm a quart of apple cider vinegar for about two minutes in the microwave. Pour it into a plastic tub and add your shirt. Soak the shirt for about five minutes and wring it out gently. It should still be soaked but stop dripping steadily.
- 5). Add a dye pellet to each of the applicator bottles in your tie-dye kit. Pour in some warm apple cider vinegar and shake vigorously. Saturate the cross portion of your shirt with one color and the rest of the shirt with another. Use two colors that mix well like red and blue, yellow and red or blue and yellow. This creates a border color where the colors mix.
- 6). Rinse your shirt in cool water until the water runs clear. Allow the shirt to air dry and iron it on the cotton setting without steam. This sets the color.
