How to Configure CIFS for Windows

    • 1). Click the Windows “Start” button, and then “Control Panel.” Click “Network and Internet,” “Network and Sharing Center” and then “Change advanced sharing settings.”

    • 2). Click the arrow button next to the “Home or Work (current profile)” item.

    • 3). Click the “Turn on network discovery” radio button. Click the “Turn on file and print sharing” radio button. Click the “Save changes” button.

    • 4). Click the Windows “Start” button, and then right-click“Computer” and “Properties.” Click “Change settings” in the “Computer name, domain and workgroup settings” area. Click the “Workgroup” radio button. Type the network Workgroup name to which the computer belongs into the “Computer name” box. Click the “OK” button and reboot the computer.

    • 5). Click the Windows “Start” button and then “Computer.” Browse to a folder you want to share through CIFS.

    • 6). Right-click on the folder and click “Properties” and then the “Sharing” tab. Click the “Advanced Sharing” button.

    • 7). Click the “Share this folder” check box, and then the “Permissions” button. Click the group or user account name you want to allow share access. Click each “Allow” column check box associated with a permission you want to grant. Repeat this step for each Group or user account you want to allow share access.

    • 8). Click the “Apply” button, and then “OK.”
