Love Bug Craft With Finger Holes

    Description

    • A love bug craft can come in many different forms, most frequently around Valentine’s Day. There are actual bugs called love bugs, Plecia nearctica Hardy, which are found in the southern states of the U.S., but the crafts that you can make are much more colorful and friendly looking. Love bug crafts are often made with children and can be used as decoration, to hold Valentine’s cards or treats or even used as an interactive toy.

    Materials

    • When collecting your materials for your Love Bug craft, you can choose any variety of things. This activity offers a great opportunity to use recycled items, such as milk jugs, socks, old buttons or scrap pieces of paper. You can also use tissue paper, foam hearts, stickers and pom poms. You can affix the materials together with white glue, hot glue or tape. Finish the project off with glitter and some paint if you want. The great thing about this kind of craft is that you can use just about anything to make it and if you offer several random items for kids to use for this craft, they will really enjoy using their creativity to make the craft their own.

    Paper Love Bug

    • Draw two hearts on red or pink paper or both. One heart should be 3 inches wide and the other should be 1-inch wide. Grab the large heart and poke two finger holes in the two humps on the top of the heart. Draw a face for your love bug on the smaller of the two hearts. Place the two hearts together so the bottom pointed parts overlap each other and glue these points together. Make arms for your love bug with crinkled paper, Chenille sticks or foam shapes and glue them into place. Allow the glue to dry before moving the love bug.

    Sock Love Bug

    • Get a sock, preferably pink or red and cut finger holes at the end of the sock. Paint an egg shaped plastic foam ball either red or pink and allow the paint to dry. Add two google eyes to the foam ball, a small button or pom pom for the nose and draw a smile or use a piece of Chenille stick. Add some wax paper hearts or construction paper hearts for the wings. Use Chenille sticks for the antennae. Use hot glue to attach the love bug body to the top of the sock. Add any finishing touches or decorations to make the love bug fit your artistic style.
