How do I Change an iPod Photo Battery?

    • 1). Turn off your iPod Photo and slide the switch located on the top of the unit to the "Hold" position.

    • 2). Locate the seam between the two halves of your iPod Photo's casing and use a thin plastic screwdriver or butter knife to gently pry the back off the unit. Do not insert the plastic screwdriver or butter knife into the unit past the plastic casing, as you can damage internal electronic components.

    • 3). Remove the small metal-encased hard drive inside your iPod Photo by lifting the small black tab located above the hard drive.

    • 4). Disconnect the battery cable located at the bottom of the unit using your fingernails.

    • 5). Remove the small screw located directly below the battery on the right side with a Torx T-6 screwdriver. Unsecure the battery cable from underneath the logic board and pry the battery up using your plastic screwdriver. The battery is held into place using adhesive compound and may be somewhat difficult to remove from the unit.

    • 6). Install the new battery in your iPod Photo so that the power cable is positioned to the lower right. Route the battery cable underneath the lower edge of the logic board, in the same manner the old battery cable was positioned, and reconnect the battery cable to the appropriate connection on the logic board. Certain replacement batteries may not have a long enough power cable to allow routing underneath the logic board; you will need to tuck the cable on the side of the logic board if this is the case.

    • 7). Screw in the small screw using your Torx T-6 screwdriver and reinstall the hard drive. Replace the back cover of your iPod Photo by squeezing the halves together, using your hands.

    • 8). Switch your iPod Photo from the "Hold" position and turn on the unit to test for functionality. Turn your iPod Photo off and charge the battery for a minimum of four hours before using.
