How to Stop Chickens From Digging in Your Garden

    • 1). Rake mulch away from the base of the plants in the garden, leveling the soil as you go.

    • 2). Cut poultry netting or hardware cloth with wire cutters into pieces that fit on the ground in between plants. The pieces should butt right up to the base of the plants and be able to overlap each other.

    • 3). Place the poultry netting or hardware cloth pieces on the ground around the plants in the garden; be careful to cover every inch of exposed soil right up to the base of each plant.

    • 4). Secure the wire mesh with tent pegs, spacing tent pegs about 10 inches apart and using at least two pegs per piece. Use the hammer to ensure the wire is secure.

    • 5). Cover the wire with the old mulch or add new mulch.
