Flourish Where You Are - There is No Better Than Here
When I moved to Arizona at age twenty-one, I noticed that cacti grow out of small cracks in the rock hills with little soil and less water against blazing heat four months out of twelve.
Amazing! I was in awe, because it was a reminder for me that if a plant could flourish in those conditions then I could flourish with all that I have, which is more than a little soil and water.
Creating a vision for your future that differs from your present situation can be inspiring and exciting, but, it can also keep you from fully committing to your present.
When you look at life with the belief that "When, I get married, when I finish college, when I get a better job," and the list goes on, life will be wonderful, you will find that you do not allow yourself to reach a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment in the now.
You will constantly search for something better, you are merely waiting for some future time or situation in order to be self-actualized.
This is analogues to the cacti seed waiting until there was more soil, water and less heat before it germinated and grew into a ten foot beautiful majestic saguaro.
There are no guarantees in this human life, so when you hold back you do so at the risk of having not fully blossomed.
The present moment offers you the ground in which you can take root and open your heart to all the wonders life on this earth plane has to offer.
Those cacti growing out of cracks in the rock hills are a perfect example of this mind-set.
What this means is that you will live fully, wherever you are, not hesitating because conditions are not perfect, or that you might end up moving sometime or have not found your life partner.
Living fully in the moment might be scary, because you might think that you are giving up your cherished dreams if you do not agree to wait for them.
However, the notion that you need to hold back your life force now in order to find happiness later does not really make sense.
Let's go back to the cacti.
If the cacti waited until the conditions were more favorable for it to grow, how long do you think it would need to wait? My guess is for a long time, if not forever.
The truth of the matter is you might be afraid to embrace this moment, and yourself, just exactly as you are right now.
This constitutes a tendency to hold back from fully loving yourself, as you are, where you are.
Many people are in the habit of approaching life with a set of conditions-Ifs and When's, or some place else will be better-that needs to be fulfilled before they will say yes to the gift of flourishing right where they are.
Now is the time for each of us to bloom, where we are, even if it is a crack in the rock hill with little soil or water.
We can grow and bloom where we are.
