How to Get Burnt Aluminum Foil Off the Bottom of the Stove

    • 1). Open windows and doors. Make sure the oven is turned off and cool. Put on gloves to protect your hands.

    • 2). Soak a cloth in drain cleaner and set it on the burnt aluminum. Drain cleaner is a strong, readily available alkaline that contain sodium hydroxide, which will dissolve aluminum. Other cleaners with sodium hydroxide will also work. Keep a clean cloth available to sop up any cleaner that may seep out to other parts of the oven.

    • 3). Let the cloth sit on the aluminum foil for 10 minutes. Once the dripping is controlled, you may want to leave the room to avoid inhaling the fumes.

    • 4). Remove the soaked towel and wipe the oven floor with a clean towel. You may need to repeat this several times to remove large or thick pieces of foil. If the aluminum got too hot, some of it may have melted right onto the oven floor and will not come off.

    • 5). Dampen a clean towel with water and a squirt of dishwashing soap to wipe up any residual chemical and aluminum.
