Uses of Bead Cones

    Jewelry End Covers

    • One of the most common uses for bead cones is to hide knots and crimped beads at both ends of a jewelry strand. The wide opening of the bead cones fits over the beading cord or wire and covers the knot or crimped bead. The cone also covers the first few beads in the strand design adjacent to the crimped bead or the knot. To use a bead cones at the end of a jewelry strand, wrap the beading material around the metal circle of a wire eye pin. Wire eye pins are straight with a loop on one end. Fit the bead cone over the eye-pin wire; the loop is a stopper for the cone. Make a loop in the straight end of the eye-pin wire with round nose pliers. Attach the loop to the jewelry clasp.

    Accents and Shaped Beads

    • Use bead cones to accentuate large beads in the center of a beaded strand or periodically along the length of the strand. Place the largest end of one metal cone on each side of a large bead. Select metal bead cones with embossed designs to further accent the jewelry piece. Alter the design by placing the small end of each cone adjacent to the chunky bead, so that the bead cones taper toward the bead. Other uses for bead cones within a jewelry strand design is to glue two metal bead cones end to end to create a large tapered bead. The widest ends of the cones become the center of a new bead.

    Accordion Designs

    • Assemble bead cones in stacked layers on a strand to create an accordion style design feature. Layer a stack of bead cones onto a headpin, make a loop at the end of the headpin and hang the design onto an ear wire to create an earring. Stack a layer of five or six metal bead cones periodically along a beaded curtain strand to alter the design. Stacked layers of bead cones work best on strands the hang straight down. To incorporate this design element into a necklace or bracelet, stack several cones on both sides of a large bead or bead-cone bead. Separate the stacked layers with large beads along the strand to help suspend the cones so that they do not jut out along the strand.

    Home Décor and Garden Crafts

    • Use bead cones at the end of each beaded strand in a beaded curtain, wind chime or mobile design. The bead cones will accent the strands and create a more professional look for your projects. Metal bead cones or homemade glass bead cones work equally well for indoor or outdoor décor. Tie the beaded fishing line or wrap the end of beaded wire around the loop on an eye pin. Fit the bead cone over the pin, then make a loop in the straight end of the pin. Attach the loop to another strand of wire or fishing line to attach the beaded strand to a curtain rod or mobile/wind chime header.
