How to Replace the Batteries in an iPod Shuffle 1st Gen
- 1). Place a hand towel on a table. Place the Shuffle on the hand towel with the control wheel facing up and the USB connector on the bottom facing you.
- 2). Insert the tip of a utility knife into the seam between the front and back case of the Shuffle at the upper right corner. Press in on the blade while moving the tip along the width of the Shuffle until you come to the upper left corner. Move the tip down the length of the Shuffle until you come to the lower left corner. Remove the utility knife from the Shuffle.
- 3). Insert the tip of the utility knife into the seam between the front and back case of the Shuffle at the upper right corner. Press in on the blade while moving the tip down the length of the Shuffle until you come to the lower right corner. Remove the utility knife from the Shuffle
- 4). Grab hold of the left and right bottom corners of the Shuffle's front case. Pull up on the front case to disengage the USB connector that is beneath it.
- 5). Rotate the Shuffle so that the audio headphone jack is facing you. Insert the tip of the ballpoint pen in the audio headphone jack. Push in on the tip to force the circuit board out of the other end of the Shuffle. Remove the ballpoint pen. Pull the circuit board halfway out of the Shuffle.
- 6). Heat up the soldering iron for five minutes. Snip the two wires coming from the battery that are on the circuit board with a wire cutter. Remove the battery.
- 7). Place the replacement iPod Shuffle battery into the same position that was occupied by the original battery--noting that the side of the battery ("+" or "-") is facing up the same way the original was.
- 8). Apply a drop of solder to each side of the replacement iPod Shuffle battery. Let the solder cool for two minutes. Unplug the soldering iron.
