Flowers That Look Like Stars
- The chionodoxa is sometimes known as the Glory-of-the-Snow, due to it blooming early in the year. Chionodoxa plants tend to be between 3 and 6 inches in height and may have more than one flower on each stalk. The flowers are shaped like a six-pointed star and, in the wild, they are blue in color, with a white center. However, certain cultivated varieties have been bred to be pink with a white center or all white.
- The borage plant grows 2 to 3 feet tall. It's an annual plant, which flowers in the middle of the summer. Borage flowers are blue and look like stars. These flowers, in addition to looking attractive, are edible. They can be eaten raw in salads and are said to taste similar to cucumber, or they can be candied to be used as cake decoration. Once matured, borages will tend to reseed themselves each year.
- The Balloon Flower is so named for its balloon-shaped buds. However, once they come to bloom, the flowers are shaped like stars. Depending on the variety, the height of a Balloon Flower plant can range anywhere between 6 inches and 2 feet. The flowers bloom between July and August and can either be blue, pink or white. Balloon Flowers normally establish slowly and grow better in organic soil.
- Pentas flowers are sometimes known as the Star Flower or Star Cluster, as the star-shaped flowers of the pentas plant grow in clusters on the end of each stem. The flowers of the pentas come in a variety of colors, including pink, purple, red and white. They are two-tone colored. This plant originates from Africa, so it blooms better in the sun, but it can also be grown in the shade.
