Homemade Percussion Instruments for Kids
- 1). Measure the height of the oatmeal canister from the bottom to right below the plastic lid. Cut out a piece of construction paper the same height and long enough to wrap completely around the canister.
- 2). Draw designs with markers, apply puffy paint designs or make designs with glitter glue on one side of the piece of construction paper. Or, get creative and use all three at the same time. Let the designs dry completely.
- 3). Apply a glue stick all over the outside of the oatmeal canister. Then, wrap the construction paper around the canister and tape the ends together.
- 4). Cut a piece of thick ribbon that is long enough to go over your child's shoulder with the ends hitting the torso area.
- 5). Staple one end of the ribbon to the bottom of the oatmeal canister and the other end of the ribbon to the top of the canister. Cut small strips of ribbon and glue them over the staples to avoid scratches.
- 1). Decorate the outside of the pie plates with acrylic paint or gel markers. Draw pictures, shapes, swirls and more.
- 2). Have your child place his hand on a flat surface. Cut a piece of ribbon so that it fits snugly over his hand, with an additional inch on both sides.
- 3). Staple both ends of the ribbon to the backs of the pie plate cymbals. Squeeze a dollop of glue over the staples and glue small pieces of ribbon over the staples to prevent scratches. Have your child slip his hands through the ribbon handles and clang the pie plates together.
- 1). Pull the top and the bottom of the plastic Easter eggs apart. Fill the bottom of the egg with 10 to 20 pennies or small rocks.
- 2). Snap the top and bottom pieces of the egg back together, mixing the colors if desired.
- 3). Peel the backing off the foam stickers and adhere them around the middle of the egg to secure the top and bottom pieces together. Decorate the eggs with acrylic paint or gel markers and let dry. Have your child shake the eggs for a maraca sound.
