How to Take Apart a GE Washer
- 1). Unplug the washing machine cord from its power source to prevent accidental shock. This is extremely important to avoid injury and possible death.
- 2). Move the unit away from the wall to allow area to work on the machine.
- 3). Use a flat head screw driver or anything flat, such as a putty knife, and insert it between the gap on the top of the washer and the front panel. On each side of the washer, towards front panel, you will find a spring clip. Push back on the spring clip with the flat instrument and release it from its hole.
- 4). Pull the top of the front panel up and forward to lift it off the clips that are located on the bottom of the cabinet.
- 5). Locate the screws that secure the cabinet top to the side panels. These will be found inside the cabinet top which you just removed.
- 6). Pull up on the cabinet front and lift it forward to release the tabs which are located under the front console.
- 7). Unplug the wire harness that runs from the front console to the top of the washers by pulling them out of the base of the dryer where they attach.
- 8). Remove the motor of the washer. Locate the wire leads connecting to the motor. You will find two leads attached to the wire harness. Grasp the wire harness at the motor and pull it out. Remove the screws securing the motor and pull the motor out.
- 9). Unscrew the clamps that securing the pump coupling to replace the belt. This will be a rubber flexible part which connects the motor to the drum/tub. Remove the clamps to take the belt off. Slide the new belt on and screw the clamps down.
