How to Replace the Fill Valve on a Whirlpool Clothes Washer
- 1). Unplug the washer's power cord from the wall outlet.
- 2). Move the washer slightly away from the wall to gain access to the rear of the washer.
- 3). Turn off the water to the hot and cold water supply hoses on the back of the washer by turning the spigot handles counterclockwise.
- 4). Remove the hoses from the water supply inlets on the back of the washer by twisting them counterclockwise with a pair of slip-joint pliers.
- 5). Remove the screws surrounding the threaded water supply inlets on the back of the washer with a 5/16-inch wrench or nut driver.
- 6). Open the washer's lid and reach through it to grasp the top of the washer, simultaneously pulling the top toward you and up to disconnect the clips holding the top. Raise the top (which is hinged at the back) and lean it against the wall. Do not strain the hinges by letting the top fall all the way back.
- 7). Locate the fill valve behind the washtub and pull it out.
- 8). Using your fingers, pull the wiring connectors off of the old fill valve one at a time and push them in place onto the new fill valve.
