How to Make Your Own Butler's Tray
- 1). Remove the backing and glass from the picture frame.
- 2). Drill holes for the handles. Place the handles so that they may be fastened at least halfway up the side of the frame and still allow for easy use. Predrill the holes for the screws to prevent the wooden frame from splitting. The screws should only be as long as the size of the frame. For example, if the frame is only 1/2 inch deep, a screw 1/2 inch long is needed. Attach the handles by screwing them in place. Ensure the screws do not to go all the way through to the inside of the frame.
- 3). Cut fabric 2 inches wider and longer than length of frame. Lay the fabric flat on a tabletop. Place cardboard backing in the center of the fabric and carefully fold over the edges. Staple it in place.
- 4). Turn the frame upside down. Replace the glass in the frame. Carefully place the fabric-covered backing on top of the glass. Replace the final backing cardboard and secure it in place using the frame's hardware. Turn the frame upright. It is now ready to use.
