How to Choose Cutlery and Tablecloth for Holiday Decorating

Cooking for the holidays is a wonderful experience. To create a beautiful holiday table you need to choose the right tablecloth and cutlery. Here are some tips to choose the right entertaining tools to make your holidays fun and memorable.

Carving Knives
Slice the beautiful holiday roast precisely with sharp carving knives. Choose carving knives with a full tang, as the blade is firmly fixed and won't come off when carving meat or poultry. Choose cutlery that is ergonomically designed for easy slicing and carving of meat. Opt for a knife that is made from hard yet flexible high carbon steel, so the knife won't chip if it encounters a bone.

You can get a cutlery set with a carving knife and a tined meat fork. The curved tined fork helps to keep the meat in place while you slice the holiday roast. You can also consider getting an electric carving knife to precisely slice through the Christmas ham or the Thanksgiving turkey.

Steak Knives
To enjoy the holiday roast, you need sharp steak knives. You can bring home a cutlery set with four to six steak knives for all your dinner guests. You can opt for knives with serrated blades or straight blades. Steak knives are versatile, as they can be used all-year long when you are serving ham or a roast.

Bread Knives
When you are serving crusty bread at the holiday table, you need a good bread knife to cleanly slice the bread for your guests. The serrated blade of the bread knife cuts through the dense dough in a clean sawing motion.

Table Linen
Dressing the table with a tablecloth gives the table a festive look. You can choose from a round, oval or square tablecloth, depending on the size and shape of your table. A tablecloth should have a six to eight inch drop, so measure the table carefully before you get one.

Polyester and cotton blend tablecloths are ideal, as they can be easily washed in the machine. You can give the table an elegant look by lightly ironing the tablecloth. For the holiday, you can choose a themed tablecloth. Table linen with spring motifs such as tulips, ladybugs and birds can be used for spring holidays like Easter.

Create a memorable holiday tablescape by using the right cutlery and the right table linen.
