How to Make Something Out of Pant Leggings
- 1). Cut off the hem of one leg. Measure up from the bottom of the leg the desired height of your drawstring bag. Add 1/2 inch. Cut across the leg at this measurement.
- 2). Turn the bag wrong side out. Hand-sew a running stitch around one open end of the legging tube. Pull the thread to gather the opening closed. Sew across the gathers, using your sewing machine to secure. This seam will be thick; you may need to put a heavyweight needle in the machine.
- 3). Turn the bag right side out. Stretch open the top of the bag to cause the cut edge to curl. The top opening of the bag is not hemmed. Measure down 1 inch from the top edge and evenly cut eight 1/4-inch slits around the bag.
- 4). Measure around the opening of the bag and double the measurement. Cut a 1/2-inch-wide strip by the doubled measurement from either the remainder of the cut legging pant leg or the other pant leg.
- 5). Insert one end of the strip, from the outside of the bag to the inside, through any cut slit. Insert the end of the strip through the next slit, from the inside of the bag to the outside. Continue to thread the strips through the remaining slits around the bag. Tie the ends of the strip in an overhand knot 1 inch from the ends. Pull the strip to gather the bag closed.
- 1). Measure from your knee to the floor. Using this measurement, measure up from the hem on both legs of the leggings and mark with a straight pin. Cut across the legs at this mark.
- 2). Fold the top openings 1 inch to the inside of the legs and pin. Sew around the pinned fold to create a casing.
- 3). Lay the leg warmers on your work surface with the front facing forward and the casing at the top. Cut a 1/2-inch slit in the center front of the casing on each leg warmer.
- 4). Cut two 1-inch wide by 24-inch long strips from an old T-shirt. Note: You do not want any seams in the strip. Pull the strips to stretch and curl them. Attach a safety pin to one end of one strip. Insert the strip in the slit in the casing of one leg. Feed the safety pin through the casing and back out the slit. Remove the safety pin. Adjust the strips with an even amount of the ends exposed. Repeat on the other leg warmer.
- 5). Put the leg warmers on with the drawstring end just below the knee. Cinch the drawstring and tie into a bow.
