Sewing a Fleece Bear
- 1). Draw the outline of a bear on the tracing paper. The size and shape is up to you, but generally a bear under 8 inches high is difficult to sew. After you've drawn the outline of your bear, add 1/2 inch around the outline for a seam allowance. Draw a darker line outside the outline to represent the seam allowance.
- 2). Cut out this bear template on the darker line.
- 3). Fold the fleece in half and lay it on a firm surface such as a table. Pin the tracing paper bear template to the fleece, ensuing that the entire template is on the fabric. There will be one layer of paper and two layers of fleece. Cut out the fleece along the outside edge of the bear template. Discard the template but keep the two pieces of fleece that are shaped like a bear.
- 4). Place the two pieces of fleece on top of each other, right sides together. Line them up and pin. Sew around the edge of the fleece, leaving 1/2-inch seam allowance. Do not sew all the way around. You must leave a gap of 4 to 6 inches to allow you to turn the bear inside out. Trim the seam allowance using scissors to make the bear a little less bulky.
- 5). Turn the bear inside out through the gap you left in the seam. Stuff the bear with the polyester stuffing. How much stuffing you use depends mainly on how stiff you want the bear to be. When you've finished stuffing the bear, use a needle and thread to close the gap.
- 6). Draw a face onto the bear using the permanent marker. You might wish to use different colors to define the face. You can also use the marker to define characteristics such as the feet and ears.
