How to Graph a Crocheted Blanket

    • 1). Decide what size blanket you wish to crochet. The length of your graph will represent the number of rows to be crocheted and the width will represent the number of stitches in each row.

    • 2). Draw a grid on a piece of paper to represent the size of your blanket. Each box will represent a stitch. The horizontal axis should have a box to represent each stitch in the row and the vertical axis should have a box for each row. You can also use graph paper to simplify the process.

    • 3). Number the horizontal rows from the bottom to the top of the graph.

    • 4). Draw your motif or pattern onto the grid. Pay attention to spacing any repetitive pattern you want to use. Use a different colored pencil for each yarn color you want to use. This will make the graph easier to read as you crochet.

    • 5). Crochet the blanket. Read the graph from the bottom right to the bottom left for row one and all odd-numbered rows. For row two and all even-numbered rows, read from bottom left to bottom right.
