How to Repair a Nintendo DS Lite

    • 1). Put the clean cloth down on a work surface. Put the DS Lite down on the clean cloth face down.

      Remove the eight screws on the back with the NDS screwdriver. Put the screws aside.

    • 2). Turn the DS Lite over and put it down on the clean cloth.

      Carefully pull the shell up and off the bottom part of the DS Lite. Make sure to leave the two shoulder button shafts and springs at each side alone so that they stay in position on the bottom of the case.

    • 3). Unplug the small white cable by lifting the connector off with a fingernail. Unplug the small black wire by pulling it off its connector. Pull the small white cable and the black wire out of the top casing through the hinge.

    • 4). Unplug the two display cables by lifting the little black latch on each using a fingernail on either side.

      Remove the small screw at the bottom that holds the motherboard to the case with the jeweler's screwdriver. Put the screw aside.

    • 5). Lift the motherboard up and out of the bottom of the case. Put the motherboard aside carefully.

    • 6). Pry the three parts of the bottom assembly apart with your fingernail. Lay the display part aside and cover it with the touch screen part and then with the protective shield part on top.

    • 7). Remove the screw covers on the top screen with the jeweler's screwdriver. Remove the four screws that are now revealed. Put the screws and the screw covers aside.

    • 8). Remove the two screws at the upper left corner of the top screen with the jeweler's screwdriver. Put the screws aside.

      Remove the top screen casing with the hinge and carefully desolder the speaker ribbon cable wires from the top display. Remove the top casing and put it away or throw it away.

    • 9). Take the three parts of the display and reassemble them inside of the top casing with the hinge.

      Take the replacement top casing with hinge and put it into position against the bottom casing.

      Run the white wire and the black wire through the top casing with the hinge and attach both of the wires to their original position. Attach the two display wires to their original position.

      Reverse the disassembly process to put the Nintendo DS Lite back together again.
