Covert Action

Covert Action, published by R&R Games and designed by Jacob Davenport, is a fast-playing card game for 4 to 14 players (playing on two or three teams). During each round, each player is secretly dealt a card and takes on the role of sniper, cleaner, bodyguard or mole. (The first three are all "agents.") Which team the players are on is known.

When an agent shoots another player, by pointing at him and saying "bang!," the round ends.

The sniper's goal is to shoot an opposing sniper or the mole on his own team. It's possible that a team won't have a sniper in a given round. If that's the case, the cleaner wants to shoot an opposing sniper or the mole on his own team. Bodyguards should never shoot another player. The mole tries to secretly signal the other team so that they don't shoot him.

After a shot is made, players on the winning team each draw a card from the plan deck. These cards each have a single letter on them: P-L-A-N. The first player to collect all four cards (which also assemble to form a submarine) wins.

The suggested retail price is $5.99.

Cover Action is a very unusual game, and quite fun. I played a prototype several times earlier this year and had an absolute blast. It's a bit like a lightning-fast version of Werewolf.
