DIY Exterior Window Molding

    • 1). Put on all protective gear. Set up the chop saw and table.

    • 2). Remove any old trim with a crowbar. Use a ladder if necessary. Pull out any nails with the back of a hammer. Scrape away any old paint, silicone, or dirt and grime with the scraper.

    • 3). Spray on the degreaser, and clean the area around the window frame with some clean rags.

    • 4). Use the old trim as a template to cut the new trim to size. If the old trim was rotted or broken upon removal, take all new measurements with a tape measure. Take in to account that corners are usually mitered at a 45-degree angle, so measure twice just to be certain.

    • 5). Cut the window trim with the chop saw. Make any necessary miter cuts.

    • 6). Attach each piece of trim with the air nailer and brads or a hammer. Level the trim as you go.

    • 7). Apply a specialized window and door silicone to the perimeter of the trim you just installed. For one or two windows, use a small tube. For multiple windows, use a caulking gun with the silicone.
