How to Make a Cotton Rosette
- 1). Determine the method for creating the fabric strips. Cutting the fabric will leave a clean, straightedge on the rosette, while tearing the fabric will leave a frayed, worn edge. Create the strips using the method that best fits the way you'd like the rosette to look.
- 2). Line up the yard stick along the fabric edge to use as a guide. The strip should be about the length and width of the yard stick. Cut along the yard stick, creating a strip from the fabric. If you choose to tear the strip, make a small cut in the edge of the fabric beside the yard stick. Use the cut as a starting point for the tear.
- 3). Lay the cotton strip right-side down on a flat surface. Fold the entire strip in half, lengthwise, leaving a long, thin strip. Insert sewing pins in several places along the strip to hold the fold in place.
- 4). Start at one end of the cotton strip and begin tightly rolling the fabric. Remove any pins as you roll. The tightly rolled end will create the center of the rosette.
- 5). Place a small dot of hot glue in between the fabric layers as you roll. Only do this a few times throughout the rolling process. If the strip isn't rolled as tightly as you'd like or it feels like it might pull apart, use more hot glue in between each layer.
- 6). Create a variation in the layers of the rosette. Roll one layer so it is looser than the others or slightly wrinkle the fabric as you roll. This will give the end result a not-so-perfect look with different sized rose petals.
- 7). Roll the cotton strip until you reach the end. Hold the end in place with your finger and compare both sides of the rosette. Choose the side that looks best for the top of the rosette. Fold the fabric end underneath the rosette and use hot glue to secure it in place.
- 8). Work from the middle of the rosette and adjust the fabric layers. Make slight adjustments, pulling some petals out further and finalizing the rose shape.
