How to Grow Shaped Bamboo Plants

    • 1). Set a cardboard box on its side so that the top is on the side. Generally a 18- to 24-inch-long box will work, but its best measure the plant's height to ensure it fits.

    • 2). Set a box on its side so that the top is on the side. Remove the lid so that it isn't in the way.

    • 3). Arrange the box so that the open side is facing a light source such as a window.

    • 4). Place a young potted lucky bamboo plant in the box and wait. The stalk will slowly start growing toward the light.

    • 5). Adjust the plant in a different position once it has grown in an outward direction toward the light. This takes at least three weeks. You want the stalk to lean toward the light at about a 45- to 60-degree angle. Creating shapes from this point is up to you and how the plant is oriented to the light. For a spiral, slowly turn the plant around and around as it grows toward the light. Other shapes might require the plant to be rotated on its side for a time. To help with this, consider getting an artificial light and moving the light instead of the plant.
