How to Fix the Spin Cycle on a Dryer
- 1). Unplug the dryer's power cord from the wall outlet and pull the dryer out from the wall so you have easier access to the back of the unit.
- 2). Unscrew the screws that hold the control panel to the top of the dryer. You may need a Phillip's head screwdriver or a flathead screwdriver depending on the screws that are keeping the control panel in place.
- 3). Set the control panel off to the side of the dryer, but do not unplug any wires that are attached. You can use a shelf or a barstool to hold the control panel away from the unit while you are working.
- 4). Remove the screws keeping the top panel on the dryer. These may be in the back of the unit or on the sides. Slide the top panel to the front of the unit and then lift it off of the dryer.
- 5). Find the screws that are securing the front panel and the side panels of the dryer. These usually are located in the top corner inside the dryer unit. Unscrew them and remove the front and side panels from the dryer.
- 6). Go the front of the dryer and find the idler pulley on the bottom right-hand side of the unit. Pull the idler pulley toward you to release the dryer belt.
- 7). Inspect the dryer belt for cracks or tears. If the dryer belt is broken, you will need to replace it.
- 8). Place your new dryer belt onto the dryer drum and then pull the idler pulley back toward you. Replace the belt on the idler pulley. Spin the dryer drum a couple of times to make sure that the belt is on the drum securely.
- 9). Replace the sides and front panel of the dryer. Replace the top panel of the dryer. Replace the control panel. Plug your dryer back in and test the dryer to make sure it is spinning.
