How to Listen to an iPod on a Car Stereo
- 1). Connect your iPod to your car's cassette player through a tape adapter. Plug a tape adapter into your car's cassette player. Then plug the cable extended from it into the headphone jack on your iPod to listen to music from the player just as if it was on a cassette tape.
- 2). Connect your iPod to an FM transmitter and then listen to your iPod through your car's radio. Connect an FM transmitter to your iPod's headphone jack. Then tune the FM transmitter to a free radio station on your car's radio (for instance, 89.7), essentially creating a radio station specifically for your iPod. There are two types of FM transmitters--those that connect to your car's antenna and those that don't. Those that connect directly to the antenna typically have better reception, but are more expensive and require professional installation.
- 3). Connect your iPod to a Line-in (AUX) port on your vehicle. Many newer vehicles have a plug built in to interact with MP3 players. If your vehicle has a line-in port, simply connect your iPod to the port and then select "AUX" on your car stereo to play your music.
- 4). Connect your iPod to an iPod-specific port on your car's stereo. Some car stereos have a built-in iPod dock that charges the iPod and transmits music to the car stereo simultaneously. Many also have LCD screen displays that allow you to control your iPod on your dashboard, rather than on the iPod itself. These systems provide excellent sound quality but require professional installation.
