How to Take Care of the Money Tree or Pachira Plant

    • 1). Place the money tree in a well-lit location away from direct sunlight, which will burn the leaves on the plant and cause yellow spots. The tree can adapt well to low-light environments. The plant needs a temperature range between 60 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit to thrive.

    • 2). Water the pachira money tree when the soil feels dry to the touch. Allow the top inch of soil to dry between each watering. The tree only needs watered sparingly to keep it healthy.

    • 3). Place the pot on a tray filled with wet pebbles to increase humidity. The money tree prefers moderate to high humidity.

    • 4). Apply a liquid houseplant fertilizer monthly to the money tree. Follow the fertilizer dosage instructions carefully when applying it to the plant.

    • 5). Prune the leaves and stems to encourage growth. Prune the money tree to contain the growth as well. Remove wilted and diseased leaves and stems when you notice them.

    • 6). Transplant the money tree into potting soil mixed with perlite every two to three years to help keep it healthy. Perlite will allow the soil to drain well. If you want the plant to grow larger, always move it into a larger pot each time you transplant. You should also transplant the money tree when its roots become crowded in its current container.
