How to Organize a Marriage Seminar
- 1). Develop the marriage seminar around a theme that is relevant for the couples in your ministry. Promote the seminar by producing fliers, full-color postcards, invitations and other promotional materials. Put the promotional materials in the hands of the couples after a Sunday morning service or weekday service. Make an announcement about the seminar during the morning services to reach the most amount of people at one time. Place the announcement on the church's website. An example of a marriage seminar theme is, "In it to Win it: Couples Working Together to Achieve Another Level of Intimacy."
- 2). Assign several couples to coordinate the logistics component of the seminar. Assign several people to set up the classrooms, activity rooms and or gymnasium. Decide the number of tables, chairs, decorations or centerpieces for the number of persons registered to attend. Tell the persons who will help to set up that you will also need them for breakdown. Design a layout map to ensure that all of the attendees will have seating.
- 3). Designate someone to serve as the hospitality representative. Tell this person to coordinate the menu for the seminar and ensure the caterer knows when the food will be served. Check with the caterer a day before the event to ensure the food will be served as reflected on the menu. Talk with the servers and cooks to create a serving order during the lunch or dinner period of the seminar.
- 4). Meet with the entire seminar facilitators. Ensure that everyone understands their role during the marriage seminar. Tell them to provide you with an outline of the information they will discuss during the seminar. Design a schedule of when everything will take place. Check and make sure each presenter has writing utensils, paper, projector, laptop and any additional items requested by the presenter. Assign an assistant to shadow the presenters in the event a situation arises that must be addressed to ensure a smooth flow of the seminar session.
- 5). Assign several people to work the registration table. Ensure packages, pencils, name badges and bags are ready when the attendees arrive. Ensure there is a sign-in form or someone checking the registration status of each person that attends. Have someone available to direct the attendees to the location of the seminars.
