How to Customize Your Own Singlets

    • 1). Pre-wash your singlet, as well as any trims or fabrics you plan to use. Dry flat or in the dryer, but be sure to wash and dry as you will the finished tank.

    • 2). Decide where to embellish your customized singlet. Plan to place embellishments at one lower corner, one upper shoulder, or at the center front, depending upon the look you prefer.

    • 3). Cut long strips of fabric, preferably a soft jersey knit that won't ravel. Set your sewing machine to a long stitch length and sew two rows of stitching near one long edge of the fabric strips or down the center for a different look. Pull the fabric along the threads to gather.

    • 4). Roll the ruffled strips to form flowers or arrange the ruffles on the front of the singlet. Cascade ruffles from the center front, arrange a long ruffle around the neckline or span ruffles diagonally from shoulder to hem. Pin into place, then stitch using a narrow, wide zigzag stitch on the sewing machine or sew into place by hand.

    • 5). Add beads to form flower centers, trims to accent ruffles, or other details.
