How to Do a Swiss Braid

    • 1). Part the hair down the middle using a fine-tooth comb. Secure side 1 loosely with a non-elastic hair tie so you can focus on braiding side 2.

    • 2). Comb side 2 out and divide the hair into three equal sections, A, B and C. Begin braiding the hair just under the ear for shorter hair or at the nape for longer hair. The shorter the hair, the higher on the head your braid must start.

    • 3). Overlap parts A with B, and B with C. Continue braiding until only 1 or 2 inches of unbraided hair remains. Secure the end of braid 2 with a non-rubber hair tie.

    • 4). Repeat the process on side 1 to complete braid 1.

    • 5). Pull braid 1 over the head, within a few inches of your hairline. Pin the plaits to your scalp every few inches, by sliding the hair pins under the hair. Do not pin the unbraided hair below the elastic. Repeat this process for braid 2.

    • 6). Tuck the loose ends of both braids under the plaits and secure with hair pins.
