Natural Way to Remove Dark Circles Under the Eyes

    • 1). Evaluate your lifestyle. If you have not kicked that nasty smoking habit, do it now. Tobacco does nothing to improve your complexion. It actually robs your skin of vital nutrients and accelerates aging. Minimize your alcohol intake. Wine and spirits can also interfere with healthy skin.

    • 2). Eat fruits and veggies. Kick your diet up a notch by stocking up on foods that provide your body with antioxidants to fight free radicals. Berries of all kinds, cherries and papaya are great for your skin. Select dark green vegetables rich in vitamin E like spinach and kale and add them to your meals frequently.

    • 3). Hydrate. Lack of water affects your skin before any other part of your body. Drink a minimum of 8 glasses of purified water each day. Cut down on coffee and soda. Caffeine can interfere with the benefits of vitamins and minerals derived from food.

    • 4). Limit your sun exposure. Ultraviolet rays produce melanin, which causes pigment in the skin to color. During outdoor activities, apply an oil-free sunscreen every two hours. Use a product that has an SPF factor of 30 or higher.

    • 5). Drink chamomile tea every night 30 minutes before bed. This remedy serves more than one purpose. Antioxidants in chamomile aid the skin. Chamomile, an herb derived from a flowering plant contains bisabolol, which has anti-inflammatory properties. This tea is also a remedy for sleeplessness. Use the steam from chamomile tea to lighten your skin. Do this by placing your face over a steaming teapot.

    • 6). Clean your nasal passages by using a neti pot. Often sinus infections and allergies are the reason for darkness beneath your eyes. Such conditions increase pressure on your blood vessels causing darkness to appear. Fill a neti pot with 8 ounces of warm water and ¼-teaspoon salt. Carefully follow the manufacturer's directions for proper cleansing.

    • 7). Work relaxation techniques into your daily schedule. Stress may be the culprit when dark circles show up on the skin below your eyes. Meditation or yoga will calm facial muscles and let your skin relax. You will also get a better night's sleep that will help to improve your skin tone.
