How to Wear Natural Hair
- 1). Wear it back. Ponytails are versatile and simple. The best thing is you don't have to wear the same style day in day out. If your hair is long enough to be worn in this way, try to experiment with a few ponytail styles to suite your head shape. For a loose ponytail with a twist moisturize your hair to give it some shine and part it at the front, left or right. Starting from the top, twist each side of your hair inward until you reach the bottom of your ears and use tipped bobby pins to hold the twisted hair in place. Make sure you leave enough hair loose to hold together. Using a hair band, tie the loose hair into a low ponytail. Use a wide-toothed comb to straighten out the loose ends.
- 2). Twist your hair. Two-strand twists are a favorite style for many women who wear their hair natural. Notably, the most dreaded characteristic of Afro hair is its unmanageability; it takes a great effort to look after it. But two-strand twists are so easy and simple that anyone can manage to do it. Take a small section of your natural hair--about one inch--and divide it in two smaller sections (strands). Starting from the bottom, wrap the two stands around each other all the way to the end. Repeat the process until you have twisted all of your hair into rope-like strands. The twists should hold for at least one month.
- 3). Try twisting and untwisting your hair. The Twist-Out, as the name suggest, is a sophisticated way of wearing afro hair. A favorite among many naturals, the style can be worn in many shapes and lengths. To achieve the twist-out look, simply twist and untwist your hair. It is recommended to leave your twists in for as long as possible to allow your hair to stay curled up when you open it. This style can last up to one week.
- 4). Braid your tresses. Cornrows offer endless hairstyling options for natural hair. Hair braided in cornrows requires little maintenance and can last for some time. You may wish to visit your regular hair salon to have it done professionally. If your hair is too fine, add some hair extensions to give the plaits volume. Individual braids can also be worn long and loose, but take care not to wear this style for too long. Be sure to give your hair a long break from braids to avoid breaking it.
