What Is Wrong With My Whirlpool Duet Dryer if It Won't Dry?

    Lint Screen

    • If the lint screen on your Whirlpool Duet dryer is clogged, it can cause performance issues. A clogged lint screen can result in either not drying at all or not drying satisfactorily. The lint screen is just inside the dryer door. Access it by opening the dryer door and pulling it up from the bottom of the dryer door opening in the dryer drum. Roll the lint off with your hand instead of wetting it because wet lint can be difficult to remove. While you have the dryer door open, look to confirm that a dryer sheet is not blocking the grille. This can happen when more than one dryer sheet is used at a time.

    Exhaust Vent

    • If your dryer suddenly stops drying properly after a period of working fine, the exhaust vent may be clogged or blocked. It can get clogged with lint. Blockage can occur if something outside the home is moved in front of the vent or if an animal, such as a bird, gets in the vent and builds a nest. You can easily check if this is the problem by running the dryer for 10 minutes while holding your hand by the outside exhaust vent hood to see if you feel any air. If you do feel air, this is not your problem. If you do not feel air, you need to stick something up inside the exhaust vent to clean it out. You can use your hand or something else, like a broom handle.

    Level Surface

    • If your dryer is not sitting on a level surface, this can result in the laundry not getting dry. This happens because the laundry is not hitting the moisture sensors in the dryer drum. The legs of the dryer are adjustable so that you can get it level. Use your hands and twist on the legs to make the adjustment.

    Settings

    • It is possible that you may have inadvertently selected the wrong temperature for your drying cycle. Doing this can result in your laundry not getting dry. Take a look at the control panel on the top of the dry to see what you have selected. If you see that “air dry” is selected, then this is your problem. The air dry setting does not use heat, which means your laundry will not dry.

    Power

    • A dryer uses two circuit breakers or two fuses. If only one fuse is blown or one breaker is tripped, you can have a dryer that powers on and seems to work fine but does not dry the clothes. This is because the heating element is on its own breaker or fuse. For this reason, you should confirm that you do not have a blown fuse or tripped breaker to blame for your laundry not drying.
