How to Make Grosgrain Ribbon Headbands
- 1). Purchase spools of 5/8-inch-wide and 3/8-inch-wide grosgrain ribbon that complement each other. The narrower ribbon will wrap around the headband on top of the wider ribbon, so coordinate the colors and styles accordingly. For example, place a patterned ribbon on top of a solid color, or vice versa, to emphasize one or the other. You could also select two different patterns with the same colors in each to create a distinctive headband design.
- 2). Select a plain headband form that fits your head. A wide headband form between 1 to 3 inches works best for this project.
- 3). Unroll a length of the 5/8-inch grosgrain ribbon, but do not cut it from the spool. Glue the end of the ribbon to the underside of one tip end of the headband form with hot glue.
- 4). Wrap the ribbon around the headband, overlapping it so that none of the headband form shows through. Cover the headband completely with the 5/8-inch grosgrain.
- 5). Cut the ribbon from the spool. Glue the tip end of the ribbon to the underside of the headband form with hot glue.
- 6). Unroll a length of the 3/8-inch grosgrain ribbon, but do not cut it from the spool. Glue the end of the ribbon to the underside of the headband form close to the tip end of the headband. The 3/8-inch ribbon will be on top of the 5/8-inch ribbon.
- 7). Wrap the 3/8-inch ribbon loosely around the headband form on top of every second or third seam created by overlapping the 5/8-inch ribbon. The 5/8-inch ribbon will show beneath the 3/8-inch ribbon.
- 8). Cut the 3/8-inch ribbon from the spool. Glue the end of the ribbon to the underside of the headband with hot glue to complete the headband.
