Reflections by Jill - A Weekly Commentary for OLTL for November 12, 2007

If there’s one thing he does well it’s throwing around his money to get what he wants and he wanted his own room. So BINGO, throw around a little cash and get someone to give up their room. At least we didn’t have to listen to John and Todd throwing barbs at each other because they were cooped up in the same room together. I think John said it all when they were talking about having only one room and he said to Blair, “For a break from your husband, I’d pay Satan for a corner of Hell right now.” I’m with you, John.
Did you fall for Todd’s little minute of reflection when he and Blair were finally alone and he said that he was thinking about giving up the fight for Tommy and concentrating on his other kids because they need him? It felt like the writers were trying to inject a bit of humanity into Todd at that point but it didn’t work for me. Don’t even tell me that after all the stuff he has gone through and all the nasty behavior he has put out there that he would think about giving up. It seemed like just one more opportunity for the writers to let Blair coddle him and tell him what a great father he is and how much his kids need him, even Tommy.
And down the hall interesting things were happening in John and Marty’s room. Frankly, I don’t see the romantic chemistry and believe me, it has very little to do with Natalie and a lot to do with the fact that John tossed aside what I consider to be two women who were willing to give themselves to him completely and now all of a sudden he’s ready to take a leap with yet another woman who thinks she understands him.
I know, we’re supposed to believe that he and Marty are soul mates because they both understand loss of a beloved partner and relate to each other on a special level. I can understand Marty’s feelings because she loved Patrick and had a once in a lifetime love with him. This is her first involvement since losing Patrick and it has taken her a while to come to the point where she wants to love again. However, I just shook my head when John said to her, “I can’t lose anyone ever again.” Frankly, I think that statement was a real insult to Evangeline and to Natalie and I didn’t even care for the John/Evangeline pairing. Both of those women devoted themselves to John and he lost them because he couldn’t make himself be a part of a relationship where he could finally be happy and have a commitment. I don’t feel a great deal of chemistry between John and Marty and I have one questions? Is it written into Michael Easton’s contract that he is never without a shirt, even when he’s in bed making love with a woman? It’s very weird to me, especially when the writers have the other actors are taking off their shirts every chance they get.
Now we know that Patrick was murdered and whoever killed him is the person in the death costume who now has abducted Cole and is after Marty as well. Let’s get on with it already and not draw out yet another storyline.
And finally I guessed something right. I know it’s shocking, but I knew that Lee Ramsey’s reason for hating John had to do with the fact that he was in love with Kaitlyn and blames John for her death. This guy hates John with a vengeance that you can feel whenever they’re in the same room.
Alex and David are pretty funny together. So was their wedding ceremony. I loved Alex’s wedding attire, a sweat suit with “Bride” written on the front. And how surprised will David be to find out who he really is and that the real reason Alex married him was to get her grubby little hands on some Buchanan money? I wonder how much of her act David is really falling for. I guess thinking she has the big bucks and the idea that she’s a sex addict is more than enough to woo him. It figures that their vows would be “for richer or richer.”
And how cute was David when he told Alex that he had $10 million and gave it all up because he didn’t want Viki to think badly of him. It’s still hard to believe that even Viki could have that kind of effect on David. I did have to laugh when David was trying to convince Alex that he could marry her and make her a one-woman man when he said, “You can ask any of the women I’ve been with and they’ll tell you I think I’m great in bed.” David is adorable, even if he is a legend in his own mind.
What is Dorian going to do when she gets so crazy from worrying about Clint and Nora and she has to be in Llanview for Langston? I thought Dorian’s comment about Langston’s hair was very funny when she asked if someone at the group home forced her to do it. I was wondering the same thing myself. It doesn’t say much for the continuity people on the show (are there any?) when Langston is going through a major emotional upheaval and sent away from everyone she cares about and turns up the next day with a whole new do. Maybe Brittany Underwood took it upon herself to stripe her hair, didn’t consider the storyline and there was nothing TPTB could do about it. Who knows?
And amidst all the mess going on in Llanview, Viki continues to enjoy her job in Texas. Now she’s going on a date with Charlie and I was glad that she reconsidered after she initially told him she wasn’t interested in dating. It sure doesn’t take much prodding from her fellow waitresses to convince her that dating might just be fun. It’s about time Viki had some fun even if Dorian, in her infinite wisdom tells Starr, “Viki is damaging the reputation of Americans by still being in Paris.” What is going to happen when the family finds out that Viki is right under their noses in Texas and having a good time to boot? Viki is going to see them in the diner this week. Will they discover what she’s been up to? I can’t wait to find out. In the meantime, I loved watching the girls at the diner getting Viki ready for her date and watching Charlie show up with that bouquet of flowers for her. I might enjoy this date almost as much as Viki.
I read that Nathaniel Marston has definitely been let go from One Life to Live and that they will recast the role of Michael McBain. I’m sorry for Nathaniel but honestly, I don’t see where TPTB had any choice in this matter. I, as well as so many fans, wish Nathaniel well in the future.
See ya next week.
