There are many craft projects that can be done with leftover wine or champagne corks. The most common of these projects are trivets, corkboards and wreaths. In addition to corks, each of these projects requires specific supplies. There are, however, three main supplies that they have in common: some form of glue, a frame of some sort (either wooden, plastic foam or wire) and a design plan. - Hot glue is one type of glue used in cork crafts.Hot glue gun isolated image by Marek Kosmal from Fotolia.com
The first major supply needed for cork crafts is glue. There are a variety of glues used in cork crafts, with the most popular being hot glue. Hot glue requires a special heating gun through which glue sticks are melted and then fed through. Hot glue is used primarily for its quick-drying and sturdy adhesion properties. It allows crafters to complete their cork craft quickly. Hot glue will not seep into fabrics or other absorbent surfaces, which makes it incredibly versatile. Other glue choices include super glue, wood glue, specialty craft glue and epoxy. These glues all have a tendency to soak into absorbent surfaces, so be aware that projects might need time to dry between steps. Each of these glues also dries in a different color and may change the look of the cork project. They all provide very sturdy adhesion and add support to the cork project. - A simple picture frame is one example of a supply needed for cork crafts.picture frame 7 image by chrisharvey from Fotolia.com
The next major supply needed for cork crafts is some form of frame. Depending on the project chosen, these can be a simple piece of wood, a plastic foam mold, a wire wreath or a picture frame. The frame in cork projects is essential to the overall appearance of the finished piece. It serves both as a guide and as a mounting block on which to attach the corks. Plastic foam molds or backings are used mostly for wreath construction, while picture frames and wood backings are used in the construction of cork boards and trivets. - The design plan for cork crafts is arguably the most important supply needed for many cork projects. The design plan can be sketched by the crafter or come in the form of the frame being used. It gives the crafter an idea of where the project is going and what it should look like when it's finished. The design plan can be anything from geometrical shapes to a face to a specific image. For more advanced projects, such as art pieces or cork furniture, you can find design plans the Internet and modify them as necessary to fit your needs.
