F# Error Code on a Whirlpool Cabrio Washer

    F1/F2

    • The "F1" error code on a Whirlpool Cabrio washer means that the machine control assembly has failed and you must replace it. Order a new assembly from a Whirlpool parts dealer. The "F2" troubles code means that a key on the user interface or keypad is stuck. Look at each key and try to unstick it. Always hit the "Pause/Cancel" button to try and erase the error code. Try restarting the load. If the code doesn't disappear, contact a Whirlpool repair person.

    F72

    • The "F72" code means that the basket didn't pass the check routine. See if something is preventing the basket from moving freely. Remove the object or reposition the basket. If the basket is floating in the tub, secure the basket to the tub. Always properly position the basket if you disengaged it.

    F40 Codes

    • The "F40" through "F42" trouble codes means that you are having problem with the different thermistors in the washing machine. The "F40" error code means that the ATC thermistor may have failed. Use a multimeter and see if you get a reading of either infinity or zero. This indicates that the thermistor is faulty and you need a new one. The "F41" error code indicates a problem with the motor rotor position sensor (RPS) thermistor, and the"F42" code means that the heater thermistor is defective. Test both of these thermistors and replace them if they are defective. You normally can't fix this component.

    F50 Codes

    • If your Whirlpool Cabrio washer displays an "F50" through "F54" error code, you are having trouble with the motor. The "F50" error means that the motor is stalled because the basket isn't moving. Remove all the shipping packing materials from the basket. The "F51" error means that motor RPS has failed. Replace it. The "F52" trouble code means that the motor RPS doesn't sense any rotation in the basket. Test the sensor with an ohmmeter. If it doesn't display a reading around 16 ohms, you need a new one. The "F53" error code indicates that the motor module is overheating, and the "F54" code means that the motor module is receiving an excessive amount of current. Remove any object keeping the basket from moving freely.
