Recommended Height for Toilet Paper Dispensers

Standard Measurement

The toilet paper holder should be placed on the wall or vanity at a height of 26 inches from the floor surface. The installer should measure and mark the wall at a length of 8 to 12 inches from the front edge of the toilet at a 26-inch height according to the National Kitchen and Bath Association.

Personal Adjustment

Ask a child sit on the toilet seat in a second bathroom that is designed for the children of the home to determine the proper height needed for children ages 3 to 10. The toilet paper holder should be high enough for the children to reach it easily without leaning forward and possibly falling from the seat. The height can be changed at a later date when the children have grown taller.

Special Considerations

Make adjustments to the height for the personal needs of the homeowner who is of petite stature or very tall when installing the toilet paper holder. An individual who uses a wheelchair for mobility may have a heightened toilet seat, which will change the height requirements for ease of access to the holder by 5 to 6 inches.
