How to Build a Scale Size Mountain for Kids
- 1). Mix the flour and salt together in the mixing bowl. Add the vegetable oil and water. Mix well. The mix should be smooth and firm like molding clay. If it is still runny, add a small amount of flour, mix well and allow it to air dry for a few minutes.
- 2). Find a flat surface to work on. It should be a location that will not be needed for anything else right away. A work bench out in the garage or a card table set out of the way are good places.
- 3). Lay newspaper over the work surface. Set the baking dish on the table. The inside of the baking dish will create the base of the mountain. If you want a large mountain, use a larger dish; if you want a smaller mountain, use a smaller dish.
- 4). Place the soda bottle in an upright position in the baking dish. Begin molding the dough around the bottle. Start at the base and continue adding up and around the bottle until it is covered. Repeat the process until the mountain is as wide as you desire. Use your finger or a butter knife to add crevices.
- 5). Allow the mountain to dry overnight. Use the acrylic paint to add life and color to the mountain. Paint the mountain shades of brown with shadowy crevices in black. Use white to create a snowy peak.
