How to Construct a Wooden Jewelry Box
- 1
Putting the box together
Using a jigsaw, cut out pieces according to the measurements given. Use the 2 pieces that are 6" x 6" and the two that are 6" x 8" and glue them together using a thin strip of wood glue along the sides. The 6" x 6" pieces will be on the outside of the ends as shown in the picture noted by A and B. Use the square to make sure the box is at right angles. - 2
Nailing the sides to the box.
Use the drill to start small holes an inch apart along the edges where you glued the box together. Nail the brads in these holes, being careful not to crack the wood. - 3
Putting in the bottom of the box.
Apply glue to the edges of the bottom piece of wood and slide it into the box. Make sure the box is staying square so the bottom will fit tight. - 4). Assemble the 1" x 6" pieces and the 1" x 8" pieces in the same manner as the box, making a frame. After letting the wood glue dry and securing the pieces with brads, attach the other 6" x 8" piece to the top of this frame. Glue it to the frame and then secure with brads as you did the sides. This will be the lid.

Placing the hinges
Sand any rough spots on the box and add a clear polyurethane finish. Let dry completely. Put the hinges on the back of the lid 2 inches from the edge of the box using the screws that came with them and your Phillips screwdriver, then line up the hinges on the back of the jewelry box and attach them with the other two screws. Line with material if you choose or leave it plain.
