Santa's costume is distinct and easily identifiable for children of all ages. The jolly elf's hat is the crowning touch to his red suit. Modeling crafts after Santa's hat adds a twist to the usual Christmas crafts. Santa hat crafts make fitting decorations for the home or classroom during the holiday season. - Red and white felt are used to create this simple Santa hat ornament. A Santa hat template from a clip art image (or hand drawn) makes the craft easier. The red felt is cut into the Santa hat shape. A strip of white felt goes along the bottom edge to create the fur on his had. A circle of white felt or a white pompom goes at the tip of the hat. A loop of ribbon glued to the back of the hat creates the hanger for the ornament. You can also cut two pieces of red felt and sew or hot glue them together for a three-dimensional Santa hat.
- A large piece of red construction paper serves as the background for a simple Santa hat craft for kids. Cut the construction paper into the shape of Santa's hat. The kids glue cotton balls along the edge of the Santa hat and at the tip for the fluffy white ball. They also can add other decorations to the hat if desired. Glue cotton balls to both sides of the hat's bottom edge if you want to suspend the hats from the ceiling.
- This Christmas craft adds a twist to the definition of Santa hat. A red cone made from construction paper creates the hat, which is decorated to resemble Santa instead of just his hat. Cut out Santa's face and belt from construction paper. Glue the face near the point of the red paper cone. Draw in the facial details. Add the belt all the way around the cone. The kids can wear this hat. It also makes a cute tabletop decoration.
- A Santa hat from the store makes a festive treat bag. A small Santa hat is ideal, but a large Santa hat works for larger treats. Turn the hat upside down and fill it with the selected Christmas treats or gifts. A strip of red felt glued to either side of the hat's opening makes a handle for this treat bag option. You can add beads, sequins or a Christmas message with fabric paint to dress up the treat bag.
- Cones made of polystyrene foam closely resemble the shape of Santa's hat. You can find these cones in a variety of sizes at most craft stores. Paint the hat red or cover it with red paper. Glue a row of cotton balls glued along the bottom edge of the cone. Another ball glued to the point of the cone finishes off the Santa hat craft. A coating of glitter spray adds extra sparkle to the Santa hat.
