- 1). Heat a tea kettle full of water. When it is nearly boiling, pull it off the stovetop and carry it outside.
- 2). Clear away any snow and ice on the ground and position the ladder carefully. Climb up onto the roof using the ladder, carefully carrying the pot of water. Make a second trip down the ladder and bring up the broom handle.
- 3). Carefully pour the hot water into the roof vent pipe. Set the teapot down and insert the broomstick into the pipe.
- 4). Move the broomstick around a few times to loosen any ice. Alternate the hot water and broomstick until the water is gone and the ice has melted.
- 5). Climb down the ladder carefully, bringing the teapot and broomstick with you.
