Thrilling Halloween Party Ideas

Halloween is just a few weeks away. It is a great time of year to host a fun halloween party. Now is the time to get your Halloween party plan together and pick out your stellar costume. Turn your gathering into an unforgettable sensation with these 4 fantastic Halloween party ideas

Halloween Party Idea 1 - Set up a Mini Carnival

The following games are challenging enough for adults to enjoy playing a couple of rounds. Hand out a designated number of little tickets to guests for each game they win. Have a few prizes available to the top winners of the night.

Marble Toss

Purchase 36 plastic cups. Glue them onto a square piece of cardboard in rows of 6x6. Place a colored sticker dot or colored cut out paper circle in the bottom of each cup. Use 3 to 6 colors. Raise the cup board onto a small coffee table or anything else to provide some height. Use the same colors as in the cups and place them on a strip of cardboard on a small table in front of the cups. Party guests will place a token or coin on a chosen color on the strip of cardboard. They will then have to toss a marble, from behind the throwing line, into a cup with the matching color in order to win.

Bucket Chuck-it

Find 6 small uniform buckets. Glue them in a line, 10 inches or so apart, onto a strip of plywood or heavy cardboard. Provide guests with a tennis ball. They must throw their first shot into the bucket closest to them. Then they must throw the second shot into the second closest bucket to them. And so forth until they were able to successfully chuck the tennis ball into all 6 buckets, in order, on first attempt. If they miss a shot, they have to start from the beginning with the first bucket.

Cola Ring Fling

Place several glass cola bottles together in a square, anywhere from 6x6 to 10x10. Have guests fling a ring onto a cola bottle neck from behind designated line.

Balloon Darts

Get a cork board large enough to place several balloons on. Hang the cork board at a good dart throwing height. If you don't want to place any additional holes in your wall, then use an easel. Blow the balloons up part way so they are harder to pop with a dart. Fasten them to the board with tacs at the end that has been tied off, or the mouth piece.

Toilet Hurl

Pick up a toilet seat from your local build it center. Paint a cardboard box one solid color. Cut a hole out of the top and place the toilet seat over the hole. Have your guests hurl a toilet paper roll or if you want to be a little more gross, a chocolate bar, into the "toilet" from a designated line.

Donut Eating Contest

Place doughnuts on a string suspended from a hook or bar. Have guest contestants hands secured behind them. Have them line up beside a doughnut. Whoever can eat their doughnut the fastest without their hands wins.

Apple Bobbing

This most classic Halloween game comes with a twist. Have the apples submerged in non-toxic slime rather than water. There are a few recipes to choose from online. A simple slime can be made in the microwave from psyllium fiber drink powder, water and green food coloring.

Halloween Party Idea 2 - Scary Taste Challenge

Have willing guests try mystery food/beverage items and guess what they are. Wander the aisles of your local Asian market for some unusual delicacies. Add some strange baby food flavor combinations. Slice up some boiled cow tongue or some sautéed chicken gizzards. It may not be at the foul level of what reality show contestants have to eat, but this Halloween party idea is enough to make you go eww.

Halloween Party Idea 3 – Haunted House

To keep the construction and costs to an amateur level, pick a room that can be pitch black. Block out any windows in that room with tin foil.

Set up a few little stations and have a rope as a guide for your guest to navigate the pure dark haunt without breaking a leg.

Play a CD of spooky sounds. Be sure to cover the CD player's display so the room can remain in total darkness.

Have creepy things for the visitor to experience at each station.

Try a couple fake tarantulas glued to the rope at the first station.

Have ghosts hanging down at face level for the visitor to walk through at another station.

Have a family member stand quietly at one station with their hand on the rope. As the visitor navigates along the rope, they will come across the moving fleshy hand and probably scream as they are not expecting another living thing to be there.

Have several strands of string hanging at face level for the visitor to walk through thinking they're walking through spider webs.

Have a fan set on the floor blowing on the lowest quietest level for the visitor to receive a sudden cold chill.

The key to this room providing a great haunt is the pure darkness. The combination of the unknown along with the possible spooks at anytime gets the adrenaline pumping.

Fun Halloween Party Idea Tip: Tonic Water Glows with the aid of a Black Light....

...the Quinine causes this to occur. So why not add some umpf to your refreshment table with Tonic Water refreshers against a black light! Use a fun clear glass, fill with spooky ice, splash of fresh lemon juice and Tonic Water. One way to make your ice spooky would be to freeze some small clean plastic spiders in the ice tray.

Halloween Party Idea 4 - Decorations

-Take some old clothes, cut off the sleeve or pant leg, stuff it, put a little red dye on the edges to resemble blood and place these body parts throughout the party area

-Buy a full mask, stuff it to retain a solid shape and hang from the back of the bathroom door

-Place little fake rats, bats and spiders all over the place including surprising spots such as slightly sticking out of the toilet paper roll or on the soap dispenser

-Buy ping pong balls and paint them to look like eyes. Place them in a few small glass jars and decorate the party area with them

-Place a black cloak, witches hat and broom on the floor where the wicked witch melted away

-Fill clear disposable plastic gloves with water and freeze them. Place those in the punch bowl

-Take another mask and stuff it. Place it on a platter along with a few whole cauliflowers (resembles brains) and have it on your refreshment table as a centerpiece

-Cut out tombstones and coffins from cardboard boxes

-Have a skeleton or two hanging around

-Don't forget the carved pumpkins

Putting together a fun spooky evening at a low cost is very doable. This just requires a little preparation but ends in a lot of fun. Happy Haunting.
