How to Fix a Wall Unit on a Garage Door Opener
- 1). Remove the wall unit's cover by unscrewing it if there are visible screws, or pry the cover off with a flathead screwdriver to expose the electronics inside.
- 2). Look for a battery within the wall unit, and if there is one, replace it. Radio-transmitting wall units (as opposed to the hard-wired ones) require a battery.
- 3). Take a look at the wires, if there are wires leading to the motor unit. Make sure that the wires are tightly connected to the terminals on the wall unit. Then trace the wires from the wall unit to the motor, and verify that the wires are tightly connected there. As you trace the route, look for damaged wire; for example, staples can penetrate the wire or rub through the insulation. Replace any damaged wire with bell wire, but before you disconnect the old wire, note the wire colors connected to the terminals on each end. Be sure when connecting the new wire that you link the terminals in the same way they were connected before.
