Refrigerator Warming Problems

    Not Starting at All

    • If your refrigerator is warm, see if it's getting power. Check the power cord, and see if it fits completely into the wall. Verify that you have turned the refrigerator on and that it's still not in the "Off" setting. Your home either has two fuses or a circuit breaker. Examine your fuses, and look for ones that have broken internal components or that are completely black. Replace these fuses. If you have a circuit breaker, an appliance may have tripped it. Reset it. If your refrigerator still won't turn on, you have a problem with an internal component. Examine the wires, and replace any that have corroded connections or that are broken. Contact a technician if you have an issue with your compressor, thermostat or relay.

    Not Cooling Enough

    • Your refrigerator may cool, but sometimes the cooling is not enough to keep your food warm. If you just installed the unit, allow up to 24 hours for the refrigerator to reach its maximum coolness. Lower the temperature setting if it's set too high. Examine the air vents, and clean them if they are dirty. See if any food or objects are blocking the air vents. Move these items. Clean the condenser, condenser coils and evaporator coils if they are dirty.

    Not Cold at All

    • If your refrigerator is not getting cold at all, verify that the doors are completely closed, and refrain from opening them too often. If the doors won't close, move any bins or food that is blocking the doors. Check the door gaskets, and clean them if food is stuck on them. If the gaskets are falling off the doors, get new gaskets or your doors won't properly seal. Pull out your refrigerator, and examine the compressor. If the compressor is making a loud noise, or if it's not running at all, it must be replaced. Contact a technician to assist you with this repair.

    Not Shutting Off

    • Another common issue is that your refrigerator keeps running after your refrigerator is cool enough. This causes the food in your refrigerator to freeze and your refrigerator to work inefficiently. Raise the temperature setting if it's too low. If your refrigerator still doesn't shut off, replace the thermostat.
