- 1). Hook the shiner inside its mouth when casting a jig. Insert the hook point into the shiner's mouth and then through the throat. Push the hook upward to the point it comes out the top of its head, just behind the eyes.
- 2). Hook the shiner behind the dorsal fin when fishing it below a float. Insert the hook into the minnow's back just behind the dorsal fin about 1/8 inch down and push it out the other side.
- 3). Hook the shiner in the mouth or tail when drifting or trolling. Push the hook point through the shiner's lower jaw, up through its mouth, and out the top of its mouth. Place the hook behind the minnow's lips. Alternately, push the hook through the minnow just in front of its tail.
