How to Replace an Electronic Ignitor on a Kenmore Gas Range

    • 1). Unplug the stove's electrical cord or turn off the circuit breaker associated with the range.

    • 2). Open the oven door and remove the racks and any other items from the interior.

    • 3). Locate the screws at the corners of the oven floor that secure it to the frame. Depending on the specific model, there may be screws along the sides as well as in the corners.

    • 4). Unscrew the oven floor screws using a Phillips screwdriver to turn the screws counterclockwise. Lift up the floor and pull it out of the oven cavity. Set the floor out of the way.

    • 5). Find the ignitor, a cylindrical device the size of a roll of quarters that sits next to the pilot.

    • 6). Remove the two screws that secure the ignitor to its bracket.

    • 7). Remove the wiring clip connected to the ignitor. Use a pair of needle nose pliers to pull the wiring clip off of the ignitor plug. Dispose of the old ignitor.

    • 8). Push the wiring clip into the plug on the new ignitor and secure it to the bracket with its screws. Replace the floor and secure it with its screws. Replace the oven racks and restore the power to the range.
