How to Replace the Roller on a Maytag Atlantis Dryer
- 1). Unplug the power cord of the Maytag Atlantis dryer from the electrical outlet before attempting to replace the roller. Locate the screws on the bottom of the front panel and unfasten them with a screwdriver.
- 2). Lift the bottom of the front panel up, detaching the panel from the metal clips at the top of the dryer cabinet in the front. Unplug the door switch connector on the back of the front panel by hand, setting the panel out of the way.
- 3). Remove the bolts underneath the top lid near the front, using a nut driver to unfasten the bolts. Flip the top lid back against the wall so it rests on the rear hinges.
- 4). Detach the plastic shroud below the dryer drum, unfastening the screws with a screwdriver. Move the idler arm forward to relieve the tension on the belt.
- 5). Remove the belt from the drum as well as the idler arm and motor pulleys. Lift the drum out of the dryer cabinet, picking the drum up from the bottom and setting it out of the way.
- 6). Take the roller off the inside of the back panel, loosening the bolts with a socket wrench in the back of the roller. Remove the old roller from the dryer cabinet.
- 7). Attach the new roller to the rear panel with bolts. Place the drum onto the rear panel, sliding the back of the drum over the slot in the panel.
- 8). Put the belt over the drum, looping it over the idler arm and around the motor pulley. Move the idler arm back into position to add tension to the belt.
- 9). Attach the plastic shroud to the dryer cabinet with screws. Flip the top lid back over the dryer cabinet, pressing down on the top to secure the lid to the plastic clips on the cabinet.
