How to Get Yellowing Out of Vinyl Floors

    • 1). Remove dirt, dust and hair from the vinyl surface by sweeping with a clean, dry dust mop. Open the doors and windows to vent the fumes produced by the ammonia.

    • 2). Pour 1 gallon of hot water into a plastic bucket. Add 1 cup of clear, non-sudsy ammonia and mix with a spoon.

    • 3). Saturate a sponge mop in the ammonia mixture and begin scrubbing the vinyl floors vigorously. Begin cleaning the tiles farthest away from the entrance and work your way toward the entrance.

    • 4). Repeat step 3 until you remove all yellowing from the vinyl. For tough-to-remove buildup, dampen a nylon scrub brush in the mixture and scrub the vinyl vigorously until the yellowing is no longer visible.

    • 5). Rinse the ammonia mixture off the vinyl floors with a towel dampened in cool water. Let the vinyl floors air dry. Speed the drying process up by pointing running fans at the vinyl.

    • 6). Dampen a clean sponge with lemon juice and wipe the vinyl floors. The lemon juice will make the vinyl shine and fill your home with a fresh and pleasant citrus aroma.
